Gye Nyame (2024)

The Akan people are people of deep faith. Many Adinkra symbols refer to God showing their attachment, respect, trust and gratitude towards the Creator.
Gye Nyame is the most popular symbol but others have beautiful meanings too. On this canvas I surrounded Gye Nyame with six of those symbols.

Onyankopon Adom Nti biribiara beye yie : By God’s grace all will be well.
Symbol of hope, providence and faith.
The Akan people call God ‘’Nyame’’ but also call Him Onyankopon, Creator of all things.

Nyame Biribi Wo Soro : God is in the heavens.
Symbol of hope.
A reminder that God resides in the heavens where he can listen to all prayers.

Symbol of faith and trust in God.
A reminder that all nourrishment on Earth is provided by God.

Nyame Ye Ohene : God is king.
Supremacy and majesty of God.

Nyame Dua : Tree of God.
Symbol of God's presence and protection.
The Nyame Dua is an altar made from a tree that was cut where three branches come together.

At the bottom right. 
Nsoromma : Child of the heavens.
Symbol of guardianship.
A reminder that God is the Father and watches over all people.
