Abusua Pa - The Award (2020)

 "…The road ahead might look rough but you can make the journey with a little bit of work and a whole lot of love. "

This one is for Hair Love, winner of the 2020 Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

 Abusua Pa means Good Family and is the Adinkra symbol of family unity, kinship ties, and family support. These are values we can see in the family at the center of the Hair Love story, that’s why I wished to depict them receiving an Abusua Pa shaped trophy.

One of the other additions I made to the original characters is Duafe, on the mother’s top. Duafe means wooden comb and is the Adinkra symbol of beauty, care and love. If you check the Transmission section of the website you will see that I have already dedicated one of my works to it.
