The Kite (2020)

 "Many will see your worth.
Some will try to hide it from you.
So I am making sure
That you will always know where it is."

There is a time for everything. Here’s my first 100% male piece, a father and son moment. A description of these two characters’ relationship.
Here we see a father bringing up his son through education, symbolism and air (on his shoulders).
Everything is about height in this scene. The kite they built together should soon rise and will probably reach these birds in the far. I purposefully chose the Sankofa bird for the lower part of the kite. Remember Sankofa symbolizes the importance to learn from the past. Going back in time is often key in the building of a better future…
The other symbol on the kite is Hwe Mu Dua, the measuring stick. It is the Adinkra symbol of excellence, examination and quality control. It stresses the need to strive for the best quality, whether in production of goods or in human endeavors.
The association of these two symbols here seems to show a life direction that this father wishes to pass on to his child through a craft that required concentration, precision, wisdom and ancient know-how.
I will now let you carry on with your own interpretation of the piece.
