Wedding Cake (2020)

"One day on a beach
We were granted a miracle.
It was flavored with eternity.
Little did we know then
that a day would come
when we would get to share some with the people we love.
"

Anybody who knows me, knows that I love cake ! So here’s my love cake. 😊
This painting actually celebrates two types of marriages. One is between two human beings as you can see on top of the cake. And the other type is the association of Adinkra and Ewe symbols.
See, the wedding cake has four levels. Starting with the bottom cake, from left to right, you can recognize Akoma (patience and tolerance), Gye Nyame (omnipotence of God), Abusua pa (family unity), on the second level, Odo Nnyew Fie Kwan (power of true love), then Osram Ne Nsoromma (love, faithfulness and harmony), and Kete Pa (love, faithfulness and good marriage).
It’s on the very top of the cake, in front of the figurines, that the Ewe symbol Venᴐnɔ Nyo appears. It is a symbol of mutuality meaning ‘’it is good to be in pairs’’. Ewe is a language mainly spoken in Ghana, Benin and Togo (my root country). I really like this symbol as it clearly depicts the joining of two individuals (just like in Unconditionnal – the Twin Flames).
Now this symbol is not for lovers only as deep and strong connexion can be found between a parent and child, between two good friends, or between siblings, especially twins. Think of twins from the same egg… So Venᴐnɔ nyo is not for lovers only, but for me it was a perfect decoration for the top of a wedding cake.
Except for the figurines, think of this love desert as fully edible (symbols and flowers too). As for the flavor, I leave this to your imagination and taste. 😉
